Raleigh City Farm Service Project

Raleigh City Farm is a nonprofit urban farm founded in 2011 on a formerly vacant one-acre lot in downtown Raleigh. They believe in the power of urban farms to reduce waste, create healthier communities, and re-connect city-dwellers with healthy food production through more frequent encounters with agriculture.

Work typically involves weeding/mulching, mowing/weed-whacking, composting and general maintenance of common areas of the farm including our raised beds.

The Green Chair Project Service Project

The Green Chair Project provides donated home furnishings, cleaned and prepped by volunteers, for families and individuals who have transitioned from experiencing homelessness or disasters and have secured sustainable housing.

Volunteer jobs are varied and include light work to heavy moving to help prepare the donated furnishings for the receiving families and individuals.

Please note all volunteers must be 13 or older. When you arrive you will drive straight to the back parking lot and enter through the double glass doors next to the green rocking chairs.

Book Harvest Service Project

Book Harvest provides an abundance of books and ongoing literacy support to families and their children from birth and serves as a model for communities committed to ensuring that children are lifelong readers and learners.

Volunteers will help sort donated books. Children are welcome as long as they are supervised by an adult.

Rise Against Hunger Service Project

Rise Against Hunger's goal is ending hunger worldwide in our lifetime through packaging nutritious food, responding to natural & man-made crises and building sustainable communities. The regional center for the Triangle ships nearly 5 million meals annually as well as countless medical supplies to developing countries.

Join 20+ area groups to bag & pack 55,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger. These will go towards emergency relief or to schools in places such as Haiti, the Philippines or Sub-Saharan Africa.

A contribution of $15.00 per individual is required. Please bring a check or cash with you. Wear comfortable shoes & a cap (otherwise you'll have to wear a hairnet). Parking is limited at the site; please use the lot at Wake Forest Elementary School (136 W. Sycamore Ave.). Please note volunteers must be at least 6 years old.
