Douglas C. Houchens Professor of English Alan Michael Parker and Clint Smith '10 will each read from their new poetry collections. In his latest poetry collection, The Ladder (Tupelo Press), Michael Parker continues to deliberate -- in all sorts of poems, some unpunctuated, some in prose, and some the first-person lyrics well loved by his longtime readers -- upon what our daily lives mean.

Smith’s debut poetry collection Counting Descent (Write Bloody Publishing) is a coming-of-age story in which he explores the cognitive dissonance that results from belonging to a community that unapologetically celebrates black humanity while living in a world that often renders blackness a caricature of fear.

General admission tickets are $7 (with a one-drink minimum, according to The Slipper Room).

Please register below by Wednesday, September 21. Tickets are limited.
