The Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) was founded in 1989 by a small group of concerned individuals who decided that the environmental needs of the Anacostia River and its watershed communities required serious attention. Over the past 20 years, the staff and programming efforts have expanded significantly to encompass efforts in environmental education, stewardship, and recreation, as well as engaging the community through public affairs.

The AWS Earth Day Cleanup is the organization's largest annual volunteer event. On the Saturday following Earth Day, nearly 2,000 volunteers come to 30 different sites around the watershed to pick-up trash, serve their communities, and enjoy the Anacostia River. We will be joining AWS in cleaning up by picking up trash and other necessary tasks at one of the sites.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and pants, and bring a water bottle and a small snack (if desired)! The site is accessible via Bike Trail, Potomac Ave Metro Station (Blue/Orange/Silver lines), or by bus.

Please register here.
