Park in the gravel parking lot just outside the front gates. Meet at the cemetery's visitor center.

Oakland Cemetery is supported by the Historic Oakland Foundation, which partners with the City of Atlanta to preserve, restore, enhance, and share Oakland Cemetery with the public as an important cultural resource and as an island of tranquility in the heart of the city.

We will work in the nursery/greenhouse getting plants transplanted, trimmed, weeded, and tagged in preparation for Oakland’s annual plant sale that is a significant fundraiser for the cemetery. We also may work on getting the sale site set up and/or doing planting or general gardening on the grounds.

Dress for the weather, wear comfortable closed-toed shoes, and bring a water bottle and any snacks you may need. We will volunteer rain or shine. Children of all ages (with parental supervision) are invited to attend. There will be an optional alumni-and-families bonding lunch after we finish volunteering

To register and for questions contact Chris Pace '93 at chris.pace@emory.edu or 410-530-0777. Please register with Chris by Saturday, March 30. Attendance is limited to the first 30 people who register.

Clifton Sanctuary Ministries provides a transformational experience for homeless men through comprehensive life skills training, purposeful and assertive case management, collaborative community partnerships, and dedicated volunteers. It is the oldest house-of-worship shelter operating in Atlanta.

We’ll join volunteer business manager Gordon Slade ’70 in serving dinner to the men who live at the shelter, organizing the clothes closet, assisting with laundry, washing their van, and yard maintenance work.

Children of all ages (with parental supervision) are invited to attend. Participants are invited to bring an item to support the shelter (paper towels, napkins, liquid detergent, etc.). There will be an optional alumni-and-families bonding casual dinner after we finish volunteering.

To register and for questions contact Sue McAvoy '77 at smcavoy@emory.edu or 404-273-1497. Please register with Sue by Tuesday, April 2. Attendance is limited to the first 15 people who register.

HouseProud Atlanta Service Project

8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

HouseProud Atlanta
410 Englewood Avenue, SE
Atlanta, GA 30315
Map and Directions

HouseProud Atlanta works with local community groups to identify the seniors, veterans and disabled people who can benefit most by repairs designed to make their homes livable, so they can remain in them longer.

We will help keep a low-income senior homeowner “warm, safe, and dry” in their existing home in a greater downtown neighborhood by helping with exterior painting, small handyman jobs, and landscaping work.

Wear comfortable closed-toed shoes and clothes you are willing to get paint or dirt on. Water will be provided but feel free to bring sunscreen, snacks, or additional water. In the event of inclement weather, call 404-494-5650 the morning of the event to confirm whether the day is canceled. Supervised children 13 and older are welcome! There will be an optional alumni-and-families bonding lunch after we finish volunteering.

To register and for questions contact Stephen Streb '12 at stephenstreb@icloud.com or 585-355-6568. Please register with Stephen by Saturday, April 6. Attendance is limited to the first 20 people who register.

Davidson Volunteer Week is made possible by Davidson Serves for Life, our volunteer-led alumni and families civic engagement initiative.
